Vigyan Jyoti scheme aims to address the under representation of women in different fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in the country. As a first step, the “Vigyan Jyoti” has been introduced at the school level wherein meritorious girl students of Class 9-12 are being encouraged to pursue higher education and career in STEM fields. The scheme envisages hand-holding and interventions right from the school level, that is from Class IX and continues till the PhD level to encourage girls to pursue a career in underrepresented areas of STEM. Various activities such as science camps, special lectures/ classes, counselling of students and parents, interaction with role models, tinkering activities, visit to Knowledge Partners/ Research Labs/ Industries/ NGOs are being conducted in the programme in order to motivate girls.

विज्ञान ज्योति योजना का उद्देश्य देश में विज्ञान, प्रौद्योगिकी, इंजीनियरिंग और गणित (एसटीईएम) के विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में महिलाओं के कम प्रतिनिधित्व को संबोधित करना है। पहले कदम के रूप में, स्कूल स्तर पर “विज्ञान ज्योति” शुरू की गई है, जिसमें कक्षा 9-12 की मेधावी छात्राओं को एसटीईएम क्षेत्रों में उच्च शिक्षा और करियर बनाने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया जा रहा है। यह योजना स्कूल स्तर से ही, यानी कक्षा 9 से शुरू करके, मदद करने और हस्तक्षेप करने की परिकल्पना करती है और पीएचडी स्तर तक जारी रहती है, ताकि लड़कियों को एसटीईएम के कम प्रतिनिधित्व वाले क्षेत्रों में करियर बनाने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया जा सके। कार्यक्रम में लड़कियों को प्रेरित करने के लिए विज्ञान शिविर, विशेष व्याख्यान/कक्षाएं, छात्रों और अभिभावकों की काउंसलिंग, रोल मॉडल के साथ बातचीत, टिंकरिंग गतिविधियां, नॉलेज पार्टनर्स/रिसर्च लैब्स/उद्योगों/एनजीओ का दौरा जैसी विभिन्न गतिविधियां आयोजित की जा रही हैं।
